Los Pedroches and the mountains of Sierra Morena, both regions to the north of the province of Córdoba, are composed of different habitats, such as Mediterranean sclerophyllous forest, pasture and repopulation forest.
Within this group of habitats, it is the Mediterranean sclerophyllous forest that is home to the greatest number of species, as it is capable of offering refuge areas, food and places for the reproduction of Bonelli's eagle, the eagle owl or the imperial eagle. , all of them in danger of extinction.

Birds are the best represented group in this type of ecosystem. In the group of small and medium-sized birds we find: common finch, chickadee, blue tit, nuthatch, greenfinch, common hopper, black-headed warbler, common limb, magpie, blackbird, hoopoe and long-tailed, among other species.


Others of greater size are the group of raptors, both diurnal and nocturnal, that build their nests in holm oaks or pines: golden eagle, Bonelli's eagle, short-toed eagle, booted eagle, buzzard, black kite, common kestrel, owl, tawny owl , barn owl and eagle owl. There are also species of birds for hunting use such as the red partridge, wood pigeon, common thrush or turtledove. It is defined as one of the most beautiful places and with a richest natural environment in the entire province of Cordoba.

It is possible to observe the griffon vulture. To complete the birdlife, the passerine community deserves to be highlighted, with the particularity of having the solitary rocker, the red-billed chough, the black wheatear and the black redstart.

Sheltered by rivers and banks we can come across colorful birds such as the common kingfisher, the oriole, the bee-eater or the gray wagtail, as well as gray herons, red egrets, redfish, mallards, common snipe, soteño scribes or even with some black stork or with the discreet crooked neck.
